True to its word, Sony has unveiled its plan to roll out the upgrade to Android’s 4.1 operating system to its most recent Xperia line-up of smartphones. 2012 models of the tech giant’s Xperia portfolio will start moving to the new platform beginning February 2013.
Sony revealed its roll out timeline on its official blog today. The much anticipated move to Android Jelly Bean will begin with :-
Xperia T
Xperia TX
Xperia V receiving the update in February or March 2013. The next batch of phones including :-
Xperia P
Xperia J
Xperia go will follow suit by the end of the month.
The tech giant will then roll out the Android 4.1 update to the rest of its devices including the Xperia S, the Xperia SL, the Xperia ion and the Xperia acro S. Though Sony has not confirmed the exact timeline for the changeover as yet, these handsets will most likely get Jelly Bean in the weeks following March 2013.
If everything goes according to plan, the long wait for Android Jelly Bean will soon be over for most owners of Sony’s latest handsets. In its official statement the tech major said, ‘We’re particularly excited about the Sony Xperia Jelly Bean features and functionality – we look forward to bringing you more information on this in the New Year.’
Though this comes as good news for many Sony enthusiasts, unfortunately a number of users will be unable to cross over to the new platform. Sony has decided not to expand its Jelly Bean roll out to the Xperia U, the Xperia miro, the Xperia tipo, and the Xperia sola. These phones will only run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich throughout their lifetimes.
