Chinese handset manufacturer Gionee today unveiled the Gionee GPad G2 phablet, which will succeed the Gionee GPad G1, a 5 inch phablet that was launched quite a while ago.
Coming back to G2, it will sport a 5.3 inch qHD display with a resolution of 960x540 pixels and a multi touch interface. It will be running on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 straight out of the box.
On the inside is a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, and a PowerVR Series5XT GPU, coupled with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt memory. The chipset, as expected, is the MediaTek MT6589. We have seen a slew of devices launched in the country with that chipset, the first being the Micromax Canvas A116HD.                                              Other features include an 8MP auto focus camera with LED flash, with face detection and 720p video recording features. It has a front 2MP camera as well for video calling. Connectivity options include 3G capability, USB, Bluetooth and GPRS.
It is a dual SIM dual standby smartphone. In terms of battery, it packs in a 3000 mAh battery which is expected to last a full day with moderate use.
Along with the phone, you also get a free 16 GB memory card, a navigation flip leather case and a screen guard.
The price of the phone will be revealed next week by the company, but we do expect it to be below the Rs. 15,000 mark, fueling competition among the already crowded segment. The phone will hit the stores in the first week of May.
