Sony first launched started the smart watch trend, after that there where many rumors of Apple and Samsung, working on a Smart Watch.New rumors are abuzz that even Microsoft is reportedly working on designs for a smart watch. The Wall Street Journal has been informed by a component supplier that Microsoft has asked suppliers in Asia to ship some watch-based components for a smart watch.
Apple and Samsung are expected to introduce their smart watches later this year and it seems Microsoft does not want to be in the race. According to the report, Microsoft’s new watch concept includes a 1.5-inch display, which they are sourcing from various component providers.
It remains to be seen whether smart watches take off, considering earlier attempts by Sony and others haven’t been a runaway success. That said, things can change immensely once Apple enters the space – something we have experienced consistently with the iPod, iPhone and iPad. Can Apple do the same with the iWatch? And more importantly, can Microsoft live up to the challenge? Seems we won’t have to wait long to find out.
