Tweetdeck for Android

Twitter API v1.0 retirement the final nail in the coffin for TweetDeck

Starting May 7, the current TweetDeck app on Android (and iOS) will cease to function, and will then be removed from Google Play the same day. This will come as no surprise to those who saw the first news back in early March, but the shutdown is due to the retirement of Twitter API v1.0, which the TweetDeck apps rely on to function. Twitter, which has owned TweetDeck since mid-2011, has chosen to retire the apps rather than re-engineer them to work with updated API's.
Twitter is trying to move users from Tweetdeck to its official Twitter apps for a long time and it is now ready to take the final step.
“TweetDeck AIR, TweetDeck for Android and TweetDeck for iPhone will be removed from their respective app stores and will stop functioning on May 7. Our Facebook integration will also stop on May 7,” Tweetdeck team noted in an update on the official blog.
The Tweetdeck web app, Chrome app along with apps for Mac and PC will continue to function.
“Over the past few years, we’ve seen a steady trend towards people using TweetDeck on their computers and Twitter on their mobile devices. This trend coincides with an increased investment in Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android –– adding photo filters and other editing capabilities, revamping user profiles and enhancing search. That said, we know this applies to most of our users –– not all of them. And for those of you who are inconvenienced by this shift, our sincere apologies,” Tweedeck team noted in the original post.
