The ZTE Geek has just been unveiled at IDF in Beijing, but is it really the device that geeks would rush to buy? It runs on a 2GHz Intel Clover Trail+ and has a 5-inch 720p display, far from top notch specs nowadays.
Here is what ZTE GEEK offers in specs:
- 5-inch 720p display with Gorilla Glass,
- 8-megapixel rear camera,
- 1-megapixel front-facing camera,
- 8GB of internal storage,
- 1GB of RAM,
- 2300mAh battery and wireless charging,
- 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and GPS.
“Our recent collaboration with Intel on the ZTE GEEK builds off of the success of the Grand Series and further enhances our competitiveness in the high-end smartphone market,” said ZTE EVP and Head of the Mobile Devices Division Mr. He Shiyou. “This partnership also will improve customer experiences by providing them with more choices in the market.”
Design-wise the Geek takes a huge step away from the Grand X IN and shares a similarly clean look with the Grand S, but without the black eye around the main camera. This particular unit had a glossy white finish as well, but we'd prefer a matte finish for a more premium feel. Since ZTE admitted that it had to rush this prototype for exhibition at IDF, we'll come back to the build quality once we see a final retail unit. The Clover Trail+ inside the Geek packs a 2GHz dual-core Intel Z2580 processor, PowerVR SGX 544MP2 graphics and 1GB of RAM. The rest of the specs include 8GB of internal storage, an 8MP rear and 1MP front-facing camera, powered by a 2300 mAh battery unit.

The Geek connectivity package lacks LTE but has tri-band GSM, quad-band 3G with HSPA support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS with A-GPS, and runs on the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
