Samsung patents bring a glimpse of the future: Galaxy camera smartphone and curved screen phone
Samsung is going to bring new shaped products to the market. According to patentbolt Samsung tried to get patents on a flexible display and on some new design points. As you may notice below is one of the patents a device with a curved display. The good thing is this smartphone doesn’t use any home button which means we might see Samsung products in the future without home button, something really good. The second photo is a detail of Samsung’s Flexible OLED panel. Samsung isn’t the only OEM with flexible OLED displays. Korean giant LG want to come with their own OLED displays.

The flexible-display smartphone is something we’ve been hearing long about and these latest patent filings show a lot of interesting features like the possibility to curve the screen to be concave or convex. The image gets intelligently adjusted to the screen’s form. To make this possible Samsung adds one more element to the display stack and that is a bending detection part. Bending the screen itself could be interpreted as a user interface command.

The patent for the curved display has been filed by Samsung in the United States in the third quarter of 2012, almost a year ago, but it is not a guarantee that such a device will indeed hit market soon or at all.

Equally interesting is another patent filing depicting a smartphone-like device that also features a full-on camera with optical zoom. Could this be the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom that we heard about recently? The images below bring up more questions than answers, but nonetheless they are extremely interesting, take a look below.

Next-gen Galaxy camera

Moving on to handset technology; Samsung has a couple of patents which very well could appear in a future smartphone product range, the first of which appears to be a camera phone (U.S. Patent No D681,712).

Samsung patent D681,712: Digital camera design
Details on this device, described as a Digital camera in the title,  are incredibly vague, the only information available is whatever we can take from the image. It clearly shows two separate parts; a Galaxy S(?) smartphone attached to a separate unit housing the camera and a lens. This isn’t the first time that we’ve heard about Samsung’s interest in camera technology; there’s the Galaxy Camera which cropped up last year and now the latest rumours flying around about the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Perhaps these two are related in some way?
