The year has just started and it's the first week and Google has already announced the discontinuation of two services: Bump and Flock. Both the services will be shut down on the
last day of the first month, that is, 31st January, 2014.
Bump and Flock are file sharing apps that were created by Bump and are mainly used for sharing files instantly between smartphones.
Bump let's you share files between two mobiles by placing them together and by gently dashing knuckles of the phone holders together. While Flock works differently than Bump the main purpose of both is the same.
Since both the app are on App Store as well as Google Play, Google has given notice to users to export their data before January 31st. Once users respond to instructions for a backup and exporting their data, they will receive a link containing all their data including media files, images, contacts, etc.
David Lieb, the co-founder of
Bump mentioned, "The services would be shutting and that they would now be deeply focused on new projects within Google. The 'new projects' are still unnamed. On January 31, 2014, Bump and Flock will be removed from the App Store and Google Play. After this date, neither app will work, and all user data will be deleted" in a blogpost.
So it's a bad news for the users of this service. Have you started finding an alternative app for any of the above service? Share with us in the comments section below.
