The big News which rapidly spread over internet today, about Facebook acquiring WhatsApp. The social media giant Facebook as acquired world's most popular messaging app WhatsApp for about $19 Billions. Facebook will be paying 4 billion in cash and 12 billion in stock. In addition, WhatsApp founders and employees, will remain with Facebook over four years following the closing and will include $3 billion of restricted Facebook shares that will be distributed among WhatsApp co-founders and its team of approximately 50 employees and will vest over the next four years.
Today after this deal Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder and CEO said “ WhatsApp is on a path to connect 1 billion people. The services that reach that milestone are all incredibly valuable. I’ve known Jan for a long time and I’m excited to partner with him and his team to make the world more open and connected ”.
It is also cleared that, WhatsApp will work separately under Facebook, just like what Facebook did with Instagram. There will be no change in pricing or subscription of the service, nor will it change its business model. Also the CEO of WhatsApp will join the Facebook’s board of directors.
