Sony has been hard at work all this year trying to carve a niche for itself in the smartphone market but given all the competition from Samsung, Apple and ZTE, it hasn’t been an easy feat. Speculation about the firm prepping a new age phablet to help it strengthen its position in the market has been rife for a while. A recent leaked image of the rumoured Xperia Odin indicates that Sony might indeed be quite close to releasing the mystery device. In fact, Odin might hit stores even before the year ends.

Android Authority came across the rendered image of the Xperia Odin and found that it resembles another picture of the handset that had leaked a few weeks ago. Though the new image does not detail any of the specs and features of the device, it does show off its slim body and ultra thin bezel.

The Xperia Odin is rumoured to be powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and run on Android’s Jelly Bean operating system. It is speculated to sport a massive 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080p and a pixel density of a whooping 440ppi. It is believed to be built with a RAM of 2 GB and an internal storage of 32 GB. The phone is supposedly equipped with a primary rear facing 13-megapixel camera as well.

Though its specs look quite impressive on paper, a number of tech experts are uncertain whether the leaked image of the Xperia Odin is indeed the real deal. This is mainly because the handset’s screen in the picture does not look to be 5-inch in size.

Whether the Xperia Odin really is the sleek handset shown off in the rendered image will be known only once the phone is officially released by Sony. If it is, then the phablet and smartphone markets just got a whole lot more interesting!
