Nokia’s next big flagship, frequently referred to as the EOS, will reportedly come with a quad-core processor. According to sources speaking with MyNokiaBlog, Nokia is currently testing two different iterations of the device in search of a perfect balance of specs/quality. We’ve known for a long time the company was ramping up efforts to introduce an even better camera experienceover the Lumia 920’s, and it sounds like a lot of focus is being put on internal hardware as well.

A source familiar with Nokia’s plans has shared some details about Nokia’s upcoming imaging flagship with us; the device has been rumored for ages now; with only one constant- that it has a killer camera.
According to our source Nokia are currently working/testing on two different models of the EOS, which have the same specs but a different processor a: Dual Core version , and a Quad core running the latest Snapdragon 800; the main issue appears to be the poor battery performance of the quad core variant which might ultimately lead to releasing a dual core variant. This does ring true, seeing how the Lumia 720′s product managers themselves have told us that they tested out a 1ghz, and 512mb versions of the phone; so it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to hear of a Dual/Quad core version of the same phone being tests, especially with the latest rumor of GDR3 brinign Quad core support.
Nokia phones has been wondering when the company would bring the 41-megapixel PureView sensor from the 808 to its Windows Phone Lumia lineup. Rumors over the past several months teased at the phone’s reveal, but it continues to be a ghost. Now some new gossip has it looking like the EOS might still be quite a while off, but could arrive with some pretty powerful hardware.
Supposedly, Nokia has been evaluating two different hardware options for the EOS, including both a dual-core and a quad-core version. Ultimately, power consumption concerns could drive Nokia to just go dual-core, but for now that quad-core Snapdragon-800-based design is still on the table.
We’ve already heard that WP8 GRD3, arriving in time for the holiday season, could introduce support for quad-core Windows Phone handsets.
This source offers a bunch of other EOS details, like how it would launch with AT&T exclusivity in the States, have an AMOLED display, and feature an FM transmitter. The camera could also be more than just a 41 MP PureView sensor, featuring a xenon flash like on the original 808 (and now 928) and optics supporting variable aperture.
The EOS is set to be an At&t(in US) exclusive upon release, with a global release following 1-3 months after, although multiple rumors support that it was ready at MWC but was delayed for unknown reasons.
