Users of micro blogging platform, Twitter, are drifting rapidly away from PCs towards mobile phones and tablets as their preferred devices for sending tweets.
According to Strategy Analytics which conducted a survey into Twitter use covering around 6,500 people in the United States and Europe, the proportion of people who used a desktop or notebook computer for tweeting fell from 77 to 64 per cent.
The proportion of those who used a mobile phone for tweeting rose from 53 per cent to 64 per cent, and those using a tablet rose from 9 percent to 18 per cent.
The study said that overall the proportion of Twitter users using a mobile device (either tablet or phone) rose from 56 per cent to 71 per cent.
According to the report, the study also showed that despite Twitter's increasing popularity, 78 per cent of respondents had not accessed the site at all during the past month.
