Google will unveil a next-generation Nexus 7 tablet in partnership with Asus at the search giant's upcoming Google I/O conference, looking to steal some of Apple's thunder as a next-generation iPad mini is rumored to be delayed.
According to the research note, the Google Nexus 7 successor will feature the same 7-inch display, but with a higher, 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution. The upcoming tablet will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip under the hood, while it will also feature a better set of cameras, with a 5 megapixel rear and a HD front camera.
The upcoming tablet is expected to feature Wireless Charging capabilities, while for connectivity, the tablet will get NFC as well, along with the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options. The Nexus 7 successor will be powered by a 4,000 mAh battery.
As for the operating system, the tablet will be running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which backs the previous rumors that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will not be introduced at Google I/O this year.
The Nexus 7 successor is also expected to retain the plastic casing.
Kuo says that the tablet will maintain its entry-level price of $199, which will result in Google losing between $5-10 for every unit sold. However, the company will make profits from media purchases and ad revenue, a strategy which worked quite well for Google last year.
