Android 4 . 4 For Galaxy Nexus Is Available Now ; Take That Google!

<p dir=ltr>When Google announced its newest build of Android, what<br>
we now know to be Android 4 . 4 KitKat, we were very<br>
surprised to hear that the Galaxy Nexus would not be<br>
receiving an update from Google itself . This was not only<br>
surprising because the Galaxy Nexus is the next most recent<br>
Nexus device after the Nexus 4 , but also because Google<br>
made waves with its assurance that Android 4 . 4 would run<br>
on devices with only 512MB RAM , a criteria that the Galaxy<br>
Nexus meets comfortably . Understandably, owners of the<br>
phone were understandably upset , but not to be deterred ,<br>
some determined developers over at XDA have knocked out<br>
a CyanogenMod 11 ROM for the Galaxy Nexus which will<br>
give the phone some of that KitKat goodness.<br>
The ROM is technically still in beta due to some “ missing<br>
common [ CyanogenMod] features” , but other than some<br>
minor issues with the camera and screenshot functions, the<br>
ROM looks like it is stable and works pretty well.</p>

Samsung Galaxy Beam got update 4.1.2

There is a surprising amount of Android smartphones with some worthy specifications that are still stuck sitting on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, and today we have some news on the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Beam.</p>
<p dir=ltr>The handset was released around a year ago now and the device was promised to be receiving the new firmware at some point by Samsung months ago, but ahead of an official release of the software SamMobile has got hold of a test version of the Android 4.1.2 firmware for the device.</p>
<p dir=ltr>This must mean that the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is not long away for the Samsung Galaxy Beam, and it can be installed now for users of rooted handsets but it has to be remembered only do this at your own risk.</p>
<p dir=ltr>The firmware is for the GT-I8530 version of the handset and has supposedly been in testing since March, and brings a great new feel to the smartphone with a much faster performance and better battery life reported.</p>
<p dir=ltr>It is expected to be released officially by the end of next month and if you want to risk downloading the test version of the firmware hit the link above and follow the instructions, but the firmware could contain some bugs as it is not the final version of the OS that will be released.</p>

Look, you said you wanted pure Android. You said custom skins were always second best. Well, today's the day to show Samsung and HTC that you're not just all talk. The two best Google-powered phones on the market, Samsung's Galaxy S 4 and HTC's One, are now available directly from the Play Store running an unadulterated version of the OS. The One will set you back $599 and it comes with 32GB of non-expandable storage. Samsung's GS 4 is a bit more expensive at $649, and you get only 16GB of space, but you'll be able to augment that with a microSD card. Both devices support AT&T's and T-Mobile's respective 4G LTE networks and are fully unlocked. Unfortunately, you can't buy either of these if you live outside the US, at least not yet. We'll have a hands-on with these two mythical creatures up shortly.</div>
