Once again, it’s been proven that when the leaks start, there’s no stopping them.The Nokia EOS is certainly one of the most hotly anticipated smartphones right now, but so far the Finns have managed to keep a tight lid on it. All we've seen so far are a few photos of the smartphone's panels that don't really give a great idea of its design and dimension.
Well the guessing may stop now, thanks to a bunch of live photos, sent to us by one of our readers. Those show the upcoming smartphone from every possible angle, revealing its design and confirming its PureView sensor and xenon flash.
Not one, but two sources bubbled up photos on Wednesday of a Nokia Windows phone that could be the handset-maker's next flagship, after its freshly-announced Lumia 925.
Known as the Nokia EOS, photos from a GSM Arena tipster and from a new Twitter user going by ViziLeaks (via WP Central) both show a similar squared-off shape and tall dimensions.
The labels around the camera lens have been concealed, so we can't be certain about the resolution of the Nokia EOS sensor, but the sheer size of the camera module seems to confirm those earlier 41MP rumors. Besides, it would make much more sense if Nokia used the 808 PureView sensor, which is yet to be beaten in the cameraphone game than develop a new one from scratch.
You should also note the long flash, which resembles the Xenon flash of the Lumia 928, and the second, smaller LED, which on the 928 is used largely for focusing.
As for the rest of the body, the handset's black casing looks similar to the polycarbonate material sheathing the majority of Nokia Lumia phones, including the 920, and the screen in these shots has the same deep black and slightly bubbled surface as the high-end, super-sensitive screens coated in a glare-reducing ClearBlack filter.
Since Nokia's Lumia 925 has yet to hit T-Mobile here in the U.S. (or even attach itself to a launch date and pricing,) I'd be surprised to see this EOS phone arrive before fall. On the other hand, Nokia has been positively pumping out smartphones spanning entry-level to high-end, so you never know.
Either way, a slimmer 41-megapixel camera with 808 PureView capabilities is one that's kept Nokia fans salivating for two years now, so you can bet we'll be tracking this one.
That is the sort of confirmation that would make us feel optimistic that the pictures that we're looking at here are legitimate. The latest buzz around the malt shoppe has July 9th launch event being a significant date for this phone.
Nokia has recently positioned itself as THE smartphone to buy for low-light photography and we would imagine that the EOS will take things up another notch. Samsung's decision to spin off a camera-centric version of its flagship Samsung Galaxy S4 shows how important marketing a strong camera has become to smartphone manufacturers. For its part, HTC has tried to differentiate itself with the use of UltraPixels on the ., which are supposed to allow more light to enter the camera sensor.
