The portable was originally due to ship on June 27 before Nvidia announced a last-minute delay to an unspecific day in July. The firm blamed a "mechanical issue" related to "third-party component".
In an announcement today, the company said, "We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your Shield. We have great news to share with you - your Shield will ship on July 31st."It added, "Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted SHIELD to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry. We built SHIELD because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do."
Powered by an Android Tegra 4 processor, Shield features a five-inch retina-display touchscreen and can play full games directly from a PC (provided the host PC uses a GeForce GTX 650 card or higher). In June Nvidia slashed the originally-planned launch price of the Shield down from $349 to $299.
