Journey of Nokia with
Windows Phone started 2 years back with the Lumia range of devices. Since then,
it has come a long way. From non-existent market share, it has been able to
capture more than 7 % market share against the space ruled by iOS and Android platforms.
Now, Nokia is willing to take the next step which means catering to the new
type of users such as people looking for large screens. So, it has jumped on
the phablet bandwagon with Lumia 625 sporting largest screen by the company
ever. But, that’s not all it has, let’s see what the best aspects of Lumia 625
are-
Radical
Design
Lumia smartphones have
always been applauded for their distinct design with availability in vibrant
colors. 625 also bring the same design with Black, White, Green, Yellow and
Orange back covers. What’s more interesting is that it has removable back cover
(but not removable battery), which means users can change the colors of the
device. All the other controls and buttons follow the same layout of Lumia
devices.
Massive
Display
As stated earlier, 625
sports largest screen ever as a Lumia with 4.7 inches TFT display having 16 m
colors. It has WVGA resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, resulting in 207 ppi. It’s
protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology for protection against scratches.
The display is super sensitive touch which means it responds to nails and even
glove touch.
Decent
Hardware
The smartphone is powered by
a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Plus processor complemented by a 512 MB RAM.
This may not sound much, but WP draws very minimal resources, thus ensuring
that the device doesn’t hangs and deliver smooth performance. It has 8 GB
in-built storage, which is further expandable up to 64 GB via microSD card. It’s
provided juice by a 2000 mAh battery giving it talk time of up to 15 hours.
It doesn’t lacks in
connectivity aspects either. More importantly apart from standard 2G/ 3G,
Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, etc., it supports next generation 4G LTE networks.
Intuitive
OS
It’s loaded with Windows
Phone 8 OS which features a completely different interface than iOS and
Android. Tiles make it fun to access apps, and some of the apps have live tiles
which means that they can show a glimpse such as Facebook app showing notifications,
Weather app showing weather information, and more. It will actually be shipped
with Amber update on WP 8, which adds a lot of features to it like FM Radio,
Smart Camera app, Data Sense, etc.
Nokia has pre-installed some
apps from Indian companies such as BigFLIX, PayTM, FlipkartFlyte Reader (offers
11 free e-books), etc.
Multimedia
Edge
The device sports a 5 MP
camera at its back with LED flash. It’s not great, but offers good casual shots
and also enjoys the software features that come with Smart Camera app. It’s
also capable of recording Full HD videos, which is rare among devices at this
price range. For video chatting requirements, it has a VGA camera at the front.
The smartphone is also
capable of Full HD video Playback. Nokia has bundled My Movies app with the
Lumia 625 which gives free streaming/ downloading of more than 3000 movies for
first 3 months. This is great for movie buffs.
In
the End.. It’s facing Tough Competition
For all its unique features,
Lumia 625 is a great device in itself, but at a price of approx. Rs. 18000,
it’s competing with not only global companies like Samsung and Sony, but also
homegrown manufacturers namely Micromax, Lava, etc.
