Recently Nokia announced series of smartphones that run a modified version of Android which includes Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL. In this modified version of android, Nokia has replaced key API's and services which also includes Google's Maps and applications marketplace with its own apps and Microsoft's services. A froum member on XDA developers has posted a tutrial to root Nokia X, so it runs Google launcher, Play Store and other Google apps including Gmail and maps.
Nokia has already mentioned that the phone will be able to run around 75% Android apps without any modifications. Only if apps uses Google services for push notifications, maps or in-app payments Developers only need to make some minor changes.
It's worth pointing out that rooting the phone will void its warranty. Also Google's own suite of apps are not open source, so technically, it's not legal.
Nokia released this X series to fill the gap between the asha series and the low cost windows phone devices.
